ANOTHER VOICE

Colour and the brain

What a fantastic thing the brain is. It creates for us an amazing array of sounds, smells and tastes. Roger Sperry, who was awarded a Nobel prize for his work on brains, commented:

‘Prior to the advent of brain, there was no colour and no sound in the universe, nor was there any flavour or aroma and probably rather little sense and no feeling or emotion. Before brains, the universe was also free of pain and anxiety. (Sperry 1964)’
