The case studies relating to the ability of Parliament to scrutinise Keir Starmer’s government can be used for tackling a variety of exam questions on different topics.

■ The first two case studies, on the two-child benefit cap and cuts to winter fuel payments, show how important the size of the government’s majority is. Starmer’s government was able to withstand rebellious Labour MPs voting against the government or abstaining, without being defeated.
