Some topics have changed significantly since then and it is useful to revisit these and make sure our understanding is up to date. This ‘Essential Topic Update’ considers climate change trends over the last 10 years.

In 2016, the world’s population was 7.5 billion people. By 2025, this has increased to over 8.2 billion. On the same timescale, GWP (Gross World Product) increased from $76 trillion to $110 trillion. More people and more wealth have inevitably led to greater demand for resources, and without meaningful policies to reduce them, higher greenhouse gas emissions (GHG emissions) from the human activities using these resources.
