Log on to the website www.mylifeelsewhere.com and select France from either the default menu of countries or from the ‘Load more’ or ‘View all’ options. A page opens with comparisons between the UK and France on a range of quality-of-life measures. Those in green represent where France has a better score than the UK, those in red where the UK is better served. Under the maps of the two countries and the country name menu, click ‘Cost of living’ to see comparative prices of common purchases.
Just as variation occurs between countries it can also be found between regions of the same country. On the right, under ‘Compare by city’, select the capital city of the UK (London) and the capital of France (Paris) then click the ‘Compare’ button. Notice the variation in prices. Click the return arrow at the top of the page and this time select ‘London’ but choose a different city in France from the dropdown menu, such as Caen. When you compare now you will notice that prices in a regional city in France are all cheaper than those in London.
