A recent UN report on Disability and Development (2024) highlights that ‘significant gaps’ remain in achieving the UN’s Sustainable

Development Goals (SDGs) for people with disabilities in developing countries, with many targets either being missed or being insufficiently addressed. Disability is a key identity and inequality focus for sociologists. Six years away from the deadline for achieving the SDGs on health, employment, education, sanitation and wellbeing, the UN (and many sociologists) indicates that people with disabilities are often being left behind.
