Helpful advice on the two different 10-mark ‘beliefs’ questions from Paper 2

On Paper 2 ‘Topics in society’ you will find the ‘Beliefs in society’ questions. There are two 10-mark questions, followed by a 20-mark essay. This article will focus on the two 10-mark questions, exploring the skills required for each type and how to approach the wording of these questions.

It is advisable to spend roughly 1 hour on the ‘beliefs’ questions, giving you around 15 minutes for each 10-mark question and 30 minutes on the 20-mark question. There are two types of 10-mark question: the ‘Outline and explain two…’ and ‘Using the Item, analyse two…’. These questions have quite different demands, discussed below and summarised in Table 1.
