Young skinheads, 1980

This article discusses a sample answer for the compulsory section of the OCR AS paper on Socialisation, culture and identity.

This part of the paper is compulsory and is worth 30 marks out of a total of 75 marks in a 1 hour 30 minute exam. After this compulsory section, you have to choose one of three options (Families and relationships, Youth subcultures or Media) and answer questions worth 45 marks on your chosen option. Mathematically you should therefore spend in the region of 36 minutes on the first part of the paper and 54 minutes on the optional section. However, as you have to read an Item for Part A (but not for Part B) you may spend a little longer on it. Nevertheless, it would be wise to have an upper limit of around 40 minutes on the first section, to make sure you have enough time to cover the whole paper.
