Reaching the top level

All three AQA A-level politics papers include three 9-mark questions, which are all compulsory. They aim to check breadth of syllabus coverage through assessment of your relevant knowledge and analysis. Each answer should take about one-third of the time and length of an essay and should address assessment objectives 1 and 2 (Box 1). Note that no AO3 (evaluation) is required for these answers.

Short answers should include relevant political terminology with definitions as appropriate, as well as topical examples and – for Paper 3, Political ideas – key thinkers. The note-form examples below sometimes include more than three points, simply to illustrate the fact that there are often several to choose from, but you should stick to three in your answers, because more points will not get more marks.
