The last 2 years have seen a surge in both state-funded and commercial lunar missions, with a focus on lunar explorations and establishing a presence on the Moon. In February 2024, the first ever private spacecraft to soft-land on the Moon’s surface was the Intuitive Machines Odysseus lander. The second, on 2 March 2025, was Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost lander (Figure 1), which was followed by several more in quick succession. Watch the Blue Ghost landing here:
