Throughout history, sport has been a central part of human society and culture. Sport not only allows individuals to develop and display their physical prowess in a competitive setting, but it also provides entertainment for millions of spectators around the world. As sport has grown in popularity, commercial opportunities have subsequently emerged and turned sport into a major business area. Here, we take a look at commercialism as represented by the golden triangle, and its impacts on three major spheres of sport: the athlete, the game and the spectator.
