This article explores key topics covered in the ‘sport and society’ section of the syllabus of the major exam boards.

The five Summer Olympic Games that took place between 1968 and 1984 can be considered to have been tumultuous, controversial and far from successful. While big-name athletes such as swimmer Mark Spitz, gymnast Nadia Comǎneci and track and field athlete Carl Lewis produced performances that broke records and set new heights, it is the events away from the field of competition for which these Olympic Games are primarily remembered.
