Self-talk is included by the major exam boards as a cognitive stress management technique in the sport psychology section of the syllabus.

Wherever we go and whatever we do, whether in sport or in our day-to-day lives, we are always accompanied by one thing: our inner voice. This is the ongoing stream of thoughts and conversations we have with ourselves. In sport, this inner dialogue is called self-talk.
