NEW HORIZONS: GEOGRAPHY WORKS

GIS technical specialist

© Jade Fawcett

Istudied geography at university on a 4-year course, where I was able to study abroad for a year. It was on that year abroad (at a university in Vancouver, Canada) that I found my passion for geographical information science (GIS).

GIS technology allows us to create, manage, analyse, visualise and map all types of data. It is used in almost every industry, helping organisations to understand patterns and aid in effective decision making. GIS is essential for a variety of purposes, including predicting where crime will happen, choosing the best location for a new hospital, finding the best route for a new high-speed rail line, and recovering from natural disasters.
