Making a real-world difference

Jo’s research focuses on intergenerational income mobility, family economics and early-years education, tracing how childhood circumstances shape opportunities later in life. Her studies – such as her finding that social mobility in Britain declined for those born in 1970 compared with the 1958 cohort – have helped steer national debates on inequality and childcare policy.
